Careers in Internal Audit

ACC’s vision is to create a unique partnership with every New Zealander, improving their quality of life by minimising the incidence and impact of injury. Within our Risk and Actuarial team we are looking for an Assurance Manager.

Reporting to the Principal Assurance Manager, the Assurance Manager has a key role in the successful delivery of the Assurance Plan through managing the delivery of a portfolio of work – this will include managing all aspects of multiple reviews from planning through to reporting, ensuring timescales are met, audit processes are followed and quality standards met. You will provide guidance and supervision to Assurance staff carrying out reviews, and personally undertake complex reviews requiring your specialist expertise. There is also an expectation for this role to lead on continual improvements to audit processes and practices – including identifying training needs and building the capability of the team through coaching and mentoring. Whilst there are no direct reports to this position, there is certainly a focus on team development and improvement.

A role like this is highly visible, both with internal and external stakeholders and will give you the chance to really lift your profile. Other key accountabilities will include:

  • Supporting the Assurance Services Leadership team in providing high quality audit and assurance services that are strategically focused on areas of highest risk or opportunity to add value.
  • Quality review of reports and working papers.
  • Following up with the business on progress with management actions, and preparing reports for the Board and Executive.
  • Maintaining effective and constructive relationships with internal stakeholders, and leading on initiatives to improve stakeholder engagement.

What we're looking for:

We’re really looking for someone with a lot of auditing experience – you will be proficient in evaluation, analysis, risk management and internal or external audit processes. You will have knowledge of organisational governance and management and extensive knowledge and experience in auditing techniques – including IPPF standards and use of auditing tools and software.

You will also have some supervisory experience. Although you won’t have any direct reports in this role, you will have accountability for ensuring reviews are delivered to quality standards and will have a lot of input in training and coaching the team in auditing techniques.

Ideally you will have an appropriate tertiary qualification and will be a member of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand, or other relevant accreditation – however we will also consider candidates who have extensive auditing experience who are not professionally qualified.
