The Institute of Internal Auditors New Zealand (IIA NZ) provides Internal Auditing practitioners, executive management, boards of directors and audit committees with standards, guidance and information on Internal Auditing best practices. The Institute has membership drawn from both private and public sectors. The Institute is affiliated with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA Global) in the USA and the numerous IIA Chapters around the world.
IIA NZ is an incorporated society with a governing board elected from the membership of the organisation.
Last month, marked the beginning of the new tenure and roles of the IIA NZ Board, along with preparations for the board strategy planning session on 1 August. It also saw the start of our new committee tenure. Thank you to those continuing in your committee roles, and a warm welcome to our new committee members.
We are excited to introduce our new Ambassador, Marla Synman, who will strengthen our Ambassador community in Auckland. We also bid farewell to Georgia Yenge, who is going on maternity leave. Thank you, Georgia, for being a wonderful Ambassador for the lower North Island, and we wish you all the best with the upcoming arrival.
While Global Internal Audit Awareness Month came to a close at the end of May, we reflected upon its success in June and are already planning for next May. We welcome your ideas and thoughts to make the next awareness month even more impactful. Send your ideas through to events@iianz.org.nz
Last week, we welcomed our new IIA NZ Board Chair, Shaun Dowers as our June Lunch n Learn speaker, who discussed "IIA NZ Board Aspirations 2024: Drawing on History to Determine Tomorrow." This remains a significant topic as we look forward to shaping our future initiatives. Shaun shared great insights from his personal journey in internal auditing and provided a positive overview of what is to come.
Moving forward into July, while the last few months has been a whirlwind of activity, there are still many events and training sessions available for you to participate in.
Our Lunch n Learn workshops continue to draw significant interest. On that note, I highly recommend attending our next LnL session at the end of July, where Chris Miller from Datacom will speak on "Hacking the Dark Web: Proactive Defence to Protect Your Brand." We're proud to offer these events in a hybrid format, ensuring that whether you're in New Zealand or abroad, you can join us and benefit from the valuable insights shared.
Events in Waikato and Christchurch are scheduled for July, providing more opportunities for engagement.
Please consider joining the IIA Global International Conference 2024 online. Virtual conference attendees can still experience much of the in-person program offerings, including panel discussions and demonstrations. Earlybird registrations close on 31 July 2024.
Our next Emerging Auditor Forum on 23 July 2024, kindly hosted by KPMG Wellington, will be held both online and in person, and there are many other valued offerings for you to be involved with.

The IIA has published a new tool to aid chief audit executives and their internal audit functions in implementing and preparing to conform with the new Global Internal Audit Standards by the effective date of January 9, 2025. The Conformance Readiness Assessment Tool identifies the significant changes between the requirements of the 2017 IPPF and those of the 2024 Standards. When used in conjunction with the results of past quality assessments, the tool enables a comparison between the internal audit function's current practices and the new requirements to evaluate and remedy gaps in conformance.

Global IIA CIA Price Increase Scheduled for July 1, 2024
IIA Global is planning a price increase for the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) application and exam registration fees.
The price increase is due to an increase in the candidate seat fee by our exam delivery vendor, plus the costs to develop, translate, deliver, and secure the exam have increased over the past two years. The price increase will take effect globally on 1 July 2024. We are planning a biannual price increase thereafter.
