IIA NZ UPDATE: NOVEMBER 2024

This newsletter captures the excitement and energy building as we approach our flagship event, the IIA NZ Conference 2024. In just a few days, from 4 - 6 November, we will come together in Wellington, New Zealand, either in person or online, to connect and engage with fellow professionals.

Over the past few weeks, the National Office has been working diligently to finalise the conference preparations. This year, we are fortunate to be welcoming a mix of local and international keynote speakers, panelists, our fabulous sponsors, soon-to-be Award winners, and of course, you-our wonderful delegates, both members and non-members.

Everyone involved in the conference has now received several emails and handbooks to ensure you know where to be, and when. If you are unsure about any details, please reach out to our Events Manager immediately via email: events@iianz.org.nz.

This year, we've been coordinating with over 200 parties (suppliers, delegates, sponsors...!) to ensure the event is impactful, eventful, value-packed, and a success for all who attend. Delegate numbers have grown significantly, as have the thought-provoking panel sessions we'll be hosting, centred around our theme: "In an Era of Fraud and Corruption, Internal Auditors Safeguard the Future."

As the excitement builds, we are confident that this year's conference will not only deliver valuable insights and connections but also inspire new approaches to the challenges we face. We look forward to seeing you there, whether in person or virtually, for what promises to be a truly memorable and impactful event!

With all the conference activity underway, please note that as of midday on Friday, 1 November, the IIA NZ National office will be closed to complete final preparations for the IIA NZ Conference 2024, which kicks off Monday with pre-conference activities. The office will reopen on Thursday, 7 November 2024.

As we momentarily shift our focus away from the conference and approach the end of the year, we have a few important IIA NZ updates to share with you:

- The draft IIA NZ Constitution member review period ends on 1 December. We encourage you to join our second draft Constitution member feedback workshop on 26 November. Register here

To view the feedback from the first workshop held on 10 October, please log into MyIIA to access the updated draft Constitution with the feedback document.

- While our IIA NZ Global Internal Audit Standards member workshop on 28 November has now sold out, we are offering a third workshop on the standards in early 2025, on 13 February. Register here to learn more.

- The new Global IA Standards will become effective on 9 January 2025. If you're seeking resources, tools, webinars, courses, videos, podcasts, and more, you can access materials related to topical requirements and global guidance here.

- For our Small Practitioner Internal Auditors, the SPIG forum on 2 December will focus on Optimising Internal Audit Methodology for Smaller Organisations. Registration closes on 28 November.

- We are excited to bring back the hybrid IIA NZ Christmas Unity event for members, following its success in 2023! On 12 December, no matter where you are, join us in person in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, or Christchurch-or attend online if you prefer. This special event allows us to reflect on the profession, share regional insights, and hear from the IIA NZ Board on the strategic vision for New Zealand and Global 2035. It's a great opportunity to celebrate our collective successes in 2024 before heading into the summer holiday season. Register here by 4 December via the IIA NZ website events calendar.

- Lastly, member renewal invoices for the 2025 membership term (1 January - 31 December 2025) will be released in early December, with payment due by the end of February 2025.

As we start to wrap up 2024, we encourage all members to take advantage of these final opportunities and engage with the events and resources available. Renewing your membership ensures continued access to the wealth of benefits that IIA NZ offers, including ongoing professional development, networking, and insights that keep you ahead in the field of internal audit.

Thank you for your commitment to the profession. We look forward to continuing this journey with you in 2025 and seeing many of you at the Conference in just a few days!

IIA NZ AWARDS 2024: IT WILL BE A NIGHT TO REMEMBER!

This year, the IIA NZ Awards 2024 reached new heights, with an overwhelming number of applications across all Award categories. We are delighted to announce that all finalists have been notified, and the IIA NZ Awards evening, set to take place on the iconic Wellington Opera House stage on Tuesday, 5 November, promises to be a truly memorable event!

We extend our heartfelt thanks to KPMG for being our outstanding host sponsor for the evening, and to David Sutton for stepping in as our dynamic Master of Ceremonies. We are also honoured to welcome Souella Cumming, ONZM, FCA, and Life Member of IIA NZ, as our inspirational Gala Dinner keynote speaker.

We look forward to celebrating the achievements of our finalists and recognising the remarkable contributions made by Internal Auditors across New Zealand.

As a special highlight, IIA NZ is thrilled to have reconnected with Richard Ratliff, a name that will resonate with many of you. Richard is the namesake of the Richard Ratliff Award, which has been part of our Awards programme since before 2006. Now retired and living in the USA, Richard continues to inspire the profession.

We recently had a wonderful conversation with him over the phone, where he reminisced and discussed his continued passion for the Internal Audit profession. Since then, he has kindly provided us with an Awards video and the following article, which I hope you'll enjoy.

Now, sit back and enjoy this wonderful article from Richard Ratliff and his son David Ratliff:

Internal Auditors: The Architects of Trust

By Richard L. Ratliff and David J. Ratliff

Bob Dylan's classic "The Times, They Are A-Changin'" turned 60 years old this year, but this titular statement from the 1960s seems almost an understatement in today's world. As for just about everything else, so it is for internal auditing, as it must be. You see, internal auditing, by its very nature, must respond to the world it serves...

Thank you, Richard, for your time and for your ongoing dedication to the Internal Audit profession!

IIA NZ CONSTITUTION REVIEW MEMBER WORKSHOP: 2ND WORKSHOP

Facilitators: Shaun Dowers/David Sinkins and the IIA NZ Constitution Committee

Following on from our 1st workshop on 10 October 2024, this 2nd workshop is to address any further questions regarding this document.

On 5 October 2023, the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 (the 2022 Act) came into force, modernising the laws and the way societies need to operate. Existing societies must reregister under the 2022 Act if they wish to remain incorporated. It's crucial to understand what reregistration entails and the consequences of not reregistering. Societies will need to prepare certain documents and possibly adopt new processes to comply with the 2022 Act.

The revised IIA NZ Constitution was released on 1 October and is available in the MyIIA member portal. The member review period will open on 1 October and close on 1 December, ensuring that IIA NZ is prepared with a final version of the Constitution for submission at the AGM on Wednesday, 21 May 2025.

Join us at any of the IIA NZ Constitution Review Member Workshop sessions to gain a comprehensive understanding of the new requirements and to participate in the review process.

Event Details:

  • Date: 26 November 2024, from 9.00 am - 10.30 am
  • Registrations close: 21 November 2024

The Standards were established through a due process followed by the International Internal Audit Standards Board and overseen by the IPPF Council.

Please Note: The workshops will feature a blend of repeated and sequential elements. Some sections will be repeated, while others will introduce new material based on this evolving input.

The Conformance Readiness Assessment Tool identifies the significant changes between the requirements of the 2017 IPPF and those of the 2024 Standards. When used in conjunction with the results of past quality assessments, the tool enables a comparison between the internal audit function's current practices and the new requirements to evaluate and remedy gaps in conformance.

Available to IIA Members only.

CIA PRICE INCREASE

Global IIA CIA Price Increase Scheduled for 1 July, 2024

IIA Global is planning a price increase for the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) application and exam registration fees.

The price increase is due to an increase in the candidate seat fee by our exam delivery vendor, plus the costs to develop, translate, deliver, and secure the exam have increased over the past two years. The price increase will take effect globally on 1 July 2024. We are planning a biannual price increase thereafter.

We are committed to keeping you informed of our certification price increase and will provide additional information if there are any changes or expected delays. If you have any questions, please contact us at Affiliate.CertSupport@theiia.org.
