The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is the lead agency for the social sector. MSD provides policy advice, and delivers social services and assistance to young people, working age people, older people, and families, whānau and communities. We work directly with New Zealanders of all ages to improve their social wellbeing.

About our Team

The Risk and Assurance team provides internal audit, assurance, advisory and risk management services aimed at evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, controls and governance processes in MSD. Our services are designed to provide insight, add value and to improve MSD’s operations and the likelihood that MSD’s goals and objectives will be achieved.

About the Role

As an Assurance Specialist you will engage with a wide range of internal customers to deliver high quality operational and strategic advice. Your work across MSD will be diverse and challenging, with a focus on continuous improvement of policies, procedures, performance and controls. You will be valued for your ‘big picture’ strategic thinking, but most crucially you will drive a proactive partnership-based approach with customers and the wider team to implement best practice across the areas of risk, assurance and governance.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

the ability to deliver internal audit and assurance assignments with minimal on-going supervision, while also being able to work as part of a team in the delivery of assignments
demonstrated influencing skills, working with key stakeholders including executive level
well-developed analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to successfully analyse information to assess risk, mitigations and the wider context to draw valid conclusions and offer pragmatic advice regarding solutions and continuous improvements
excellent report writing and presentation capabilities.
