Careers in Internal Audit

Lead Auditor

Be the leading practitioner within a valued Assurance and Audit function in one of the most diverse agencies in government:

  • empowered role with significant scope - variety of bespoke engagements
  • manage the relationship with the external auditors
  • continuous improvement focus

DIA is a large government department, with a diverse portfolio including anti-money laundering, leading the digital transformation of government, and being the guardian of New Zealanders' identity information. Our vision is to serve and connect people, communities and government to build a safe, prosperous and respected nation.

You will be one of a team of three, reporting to the Manager Assurance and Audit within the Organisational Strategy and Performance (OSP) Branch of DIA, right at the corporate centre. OSP is a small branch with a big job. We provide direction, oversight and leadership across Internal Affairs around risk assurance, project governance, legal services and strategic planning.

This is an empowered role with significant scope - you will be the technical adviser across the assurance and audit programme, undertaking a variety of responsive and advisory work. As well as delivering on our core work programme, we are "invited in" to do a range of reviews - a good indicator of a valued audit function. We work closely with the organisational risk team and there will be opportunities to support their work too. In the role, you will manage the relationship with DIA's external auditors, facilitating their work. DIA is replacing its core financial and HR systems in the next few years, necessitating some important assurance work over the transition and implementation.

Ideally you will be a Chartered Accountant with good knowledge of state sector finance and procurement requirements. Requiring at least 5 years experience in the audit world, this role would suit somebody seeking a step up either in terms of responsibility and/or variety of audit and assurance work, or an experienced external auditor seeking the opportunity to apply your skills in depth within one organisation. Further detail is provided in the job description. The salary range is $92,316 - $124,897.
