IIA Global Systems Outage

The IIA, in response to an attempted ransomware attack, made the prudent decision to immediately take their websites and other interconnected systems offline.

This was done to protect the integrity of the entire system and safeguard all data, including that of members.

While the decision to go offline has created a disruption in services to members, The IIA is increasingly confident that their actions successfully blocked any attempt to further access the systems, and that member and other data was not compromised.

Their actions before the attempted attack and since are proactive and reactive, and involve internal and external expertise in the fields of cyber security and forensics.

• Incident Response Plan encouraged/supported quick mobilisation.
• Sophisticated firewalls and other safeguards that were already in place averted a more serious intrusion of mission-critical systems and data.
• In response to the attempted attack, a thorough 24/7 scan began of their systems, checking carefully for any potential or hidden vulnerabilities, and adding additional safeguards.

With more of the websites coming back online every day, nearly a dozen areas fully restored including CCMS, CPE reporting and training programmes, and the IIA Bookstore.
