Managing Corrupt Conduct During the COVID-19 Outbreak

The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has had a significant impact on the organisational control environment. There are particular challenges in managing the control framework in the remote work environment and in fast tracked projects that have been rolled out in response to COVID-19. This session will share the insights from ICAC in relation to the fraud and corruption risks that can arise during this period of disruption.

  • Trends and evidence that the risk of fraud and corruption is heightened during crises (such as pandemics) and economic downturns
  • Overview on the current Covid-19 pandemic and the related economic fallout that will present numerous challenges to internal auditors, especially when it comes to preventing and detecting fraud
  • ICAC observations about corruption risks, including some insights which are set out in its recent paper, Managing corrupt conduct during the COVID-19 outbreak

Presenter: Lewis Rangott, Executive Director, Corruption Prevention Division, Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC)
