Christchurch Networking Forum
Topic: Financial Crime in a Post Covid-19 Era
Speakers:
David Seath is a Deloitte Forensic Partner who leads the Deloitte South Island Risk Advisory Practice. He has spent over 25 years conducting fraud prevention assignments and fraud investigations (including a number of high profile SI frauds).
Niki Battson is a Deloitte Associate Director who leads the forensic workstream within David's team. She is a chartered accountant, with over 10 years of experience across both the external audit and forensic areas.
The fraud diamond is a widely accepted theory that explains the four elements that need to be present for fraud and other unethical behaviour to occur, including: (1) motivation, (2) opportunity, (3) capability, and (4) rationalisation. All four of these elements have been impacted by the COVID pandemic.
David and Niki will use this theory to:
- Explain each of these elements (motivation, opportunity, capability, and rationalisation) and provide some practical examples;
- Highlight how the fraud diamond could be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and influence an individual's behaviour accordingly; and
- Facilitate a discussion to provide you with an opportunity to share any relevant examples from your own organisation.
They will also carry out an interactive exercise (through the Mentimeter Tool) to highlight some of the key risks within a changing fraud landscape and also provide you with some proactive steps to safeguard your organisation going forward.
There will be an opportunity for networking from 4:30, with the session starting at 5pm.
