2025 IIA NZ Workshop: Final Standards Workshop - Global Internal Audit Standards: Key Developments and Local Connection

Event Information:

  • Date: Wednesday 27 August 2025
  • Delivery Method: Online - Teams Meeting
  • Time: 9:00 - 10:00 am (NZT)
  • Duration: 1 Hour

Workshop Overview:

The internal audit profession is undergoing a significant transformation with the introduction of the new Global Internal Audit Standards. These changes reflect the evolving expectations of stakeholders, increased complexity in organisational environments, and the growing need for internal auditors to demonstrate both assurance and advisory capability.

This workshop is designed to support IIA NZ members in understanding and practically applying the Standards within a New Zealand and Pacific context. It aims to bridge the gap between global direction and local implementation - providing clarity, discussion, and peer insights on how to navigate the transition effectively.

Key themes that will be explored include:

  • A summary of the key updates to the Global Standards and the rationale behind these changes
  • What these changes mean in practice - from audit planning to stakeholder engagement and reporting
  • The skills and capabilities internal auditors will need to thrive under the updated Standards
  • Lessons learned and emerging trends from the early stages of global and regional adoption

Whether you're part of a large internal audit function or working independently, this session offers valuable insights into aligning your practices with the new expectations while maintaining local relevance and impact.

Session Breakdown:

1. Global Update: Speaker: George
George will open the session with an overview of the key developments under the Global Standards, including international insights, expectations for adoption, and what to watch in the coming year. George, if you're able to provide any resources, podcasts, or materials we can share with attendees, that would be greatly appreciated.

2. Practical Implications: Speakers: Brian and Will
This segment will focus on what these changes mean at the local level - including implications for audit planning, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and team capability. Brian and Will will offer reflections based on their organisational contexts and experience in the public and private sector space.

3. Panel Q&A and Member Discussion: Facilitated Panel: George, Brian, and Will

The session will conclude with an open discussion and Q&A segment, allowing members to ask questions and explore key challenges, interpretations, and implementation strategies.

This will be the final session in our 2025 Standards Series
