The Small Practitioners Special Interest Group (SPIG) provides a dedicated and supportive platform for internal auditors, assurance professionals, and practitioners who are not part of larger internal audit teams. The group's purpose is to connect members facing similar resource constraints, diverse responsibilities, and unique challenges in their roles, enabling them to share experiences, insights, and solutions.
Event Details: Summary: Fraud remains one of the most pervasive risks across organisations of all sizes, but small and medium entities are often disproportionately vulnerable due to limited segregation of duties, constrained resources, and a heavier reliance on trust-based processes. For small or sole internal audit functions, identifying, assessing, and responding to fraud risks can be particularly challenging without formal fraud units, data analytics teams, or advanced monitoring tools. This SPIG session will focus on practical, scalable, and cost-effective approaches that internal auditors can apply to strengthen fraud risk management in small environments. The emphasis should remain grounded in the realities of small organisations, including simple detection techniques, practical red flags, and clear escalation pathways, rather than sophisticated analytics or larger-team processes that may not be realistic for this audience.
