IIA NZ Events and Support Officer

Location: Wellington
Permanent - 30 hours per week


The Institute of Internal Auditors New Zealand (IIA NZ) National Office is seeking an Events and Support Officer to join our team for 30 hours per week/6 hours per day. 

The IIA's mission is to provide dynamic leadership for the global profession of internal auditing, promoting the value of internal auditing and advancing the practice through advocacy, education, and professional development. In New Zealand, we have over 800 members.

This position is based in central Wellington with the option to work from home two days a week.

About the role

We are seeking an Events and Support Officer, some of the key responsibilities may include:

  • Organising and coordinating events, conferences, and other meetings, including venue bookings, catering, speaker arrangements, and promotional activities.
  • Providing administrative support to the team, including maintaining records, processing invoices, and managing office supplies.
  • Providing membership contact support concerning joining the organisation and or assisting members with training and or event information.
  • Assisting with the implementation of communication and marketing plans, including social media and email campaigns.
  • Supporting members and stakeholders by answering queries, providing information, and responding to feedback.
  • Researching to support decision-making, including gathering data, preparing event management reports, and presenting findings.
  • Maintaining accurate records of the organisation's activities and events, ensuring that all documentation and records are up to date.
  • Collaborating with other team members, stakeholders, and partners to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Previous experience in event management and administration, working with various stakeholders such as attendees, venues, AV, speakers/trainers, etc.

Overall, the Events and Support Officer will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of events and providing administrative support to the team as required. The role requires excellent organisational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key skills and experience

We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience: 

  • Good at juggling responsibilities and priorities
  • High level of interpersonal and relationship-building ability.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) with strong attention to detail. 
  • Excellent IT and computer literacy.
  • Empathy and patience, particularly toward members.
  • A friendly and professional manner.

Successful applicants will possess: 

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in event management and administration 
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and experience with event management software
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to build trusting relationships. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.

Experience in a membership association industry would also be beneficial, although this is not a requirement.
