IIA NZ Learning Lab: 4 of 4 Workshops 2025

Are you ready to expand your knowledge and grow within the Internal Audit profession? Join us for the fourth of four IIA NZ Learning Lab Workshops in 2025, designed to provide members with engaging, practical, and insightful learning opportunities.

IIA NZ Learning Lab overview:

IIA NZ is excited to launch our bi-monthly Online Learning Lab Workshops, tailored to provide members with insightful learning opportunities that combine theory with real-world application.

These workshops offer a collaborative environment where participants can explore key topics, gain resources, and discuss practical case studies to enhance their professional expertise.

  • Date: 25 September 2025
  • Time: 10:00 - 11:30 am
  • Topic: "Understanding the Privacy Act - Key Obligations and Audit Implications"
  • Speaker: Robyn Campbell, Risk Services Partner, PwC Wellington

Bio: Robyn is passionate about the human impact of how we use technology and information. She is particularly interested in the balance between transparency and privacy of data, as it delivers a key measure of how organisations are managing information in line with people's expectations.

Robyn has a focus on 'information conscience' and helping organisations to protect the information they hold - whether it's to support key business operations, embed tikanga Maori into data management, manage strategic security risks, protect privacy, avoid incidents or protect the integrity of key systems. To achieve this, Robyn works closely alongside her clients in the public, health and a range of other sectors to understand what is most important to them. She uses this insight to help tailor solutions that achieve the right balance between information protection and using information for their business outcomes.

Robyn works across the cyber and privacy disciplines at a governance level and has undertaken a range of projects, which cover areas such as security and privacy strategy, information risk, operating models, incident response, security, privacy and assurance frameworks.

She wants to see information protection improve for Aotearoa and particularly Maori, not just for the efficiency gains in how information is used by organisations, but for the difference it makes to each of us. Improving the diversity of her team is a key priority for Robyn, and she hopes to encourage other women to pursue leadership positions in cybersecurity

Topic: Understanding the Privacy Act - Key Obligations and Audit Implications

Session Overview:

This interactive Learning Lab focuses on the Privacy Act, recent updates, and implications for internal audit. The session will clarify obligations under the Act and how these intersect with governance, risk management, and audit activity. Rather than a formal case study, participants will work through scenario-based discussions that highlight likely risks, obligations, and audit responses. The workshop will conclude with an "Ask the Expert" Q&A segment, where attendees are encouraged to bring along three questions for discussion. Together, these elements provide practical insights that strengthen privacy controls, safeguard personal data, and add value to organisational frameworks.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the core principles of the Privacy Act and identify recent updates affecting their organisations.
  • Recognise common privacy risks and compliance challenges relevant to internal audit and governance.
  • Apply scenario-based thinking to assess privacy obligations, risks, and appropriate audit responses.
  • Engage confidently with stakeholders when auditing or advising on privacy-related issues.
  • Contribute to an expert-led Q&A by preparing and discussing practical questions relevant to their own environments.

Workshops Agenda:

  • Topic overview: Each session begins with an engaging overview of the focus topic, presented by an experienced speaker.
  • Speaker insights: Learn from leading professionals in the field, who bring a wealth of expertise to the discussion.
  • Curated resources: Attendees will receive resources (for example: links, podcasts or documentation) to reinforce learning and support ongoing professional development.
  • Interactive case study: Each workshop includes a practical case study discussion, allowing participants to apply concepts in a real-world context and exchange ideas with peers.
  • CPE credits: Members who attend the full session will receive Continuing Professional Education credits.
