IIA NZ Essentials 101 Ethics Training Course - Part 1: Introduction to Ethics!

Are you ready to embark on a journey of ethical excellence?

Welcome to the two-hour online workshop, the IIA NZ Essentials 101 Ethics Training Course, Part 1, scheduled for Thursday, 30 November from 9 am to 11 am.

This session serves as your gateway to the intriguing realm of ethics and its profound importance in the field of internal auditing.

In this overview, we'll delve into the fundamental aspects of this course to give you a glimpse of what to expect.

Introducing Ethics:

  • What are ethics? Ethics is the compass that guides our behaviour. It's the set of principles and values that define what's right and wrong, both personally and professionally.
  • Why have them? Ethics provide a moral foundation for our actions. They help us make decisions that align with our values and societal expectations.
  • Why should we be interested in them? In the world of internal auditing, ethics are not just a choice but a necessity. Ethical conduct is essential to maintain trust, credibility, and reputation.
  • Where do we find them? Ethics can be found in various forms - from personal beliefs and cultural norms to professional codes and standards.
  • Which ones specifically apply to us as internal auditors? As internal auditors, we are bound by ethical codes specific to our profession and Global standards. These codes outline the expectations and standards we must uphold. Being ethical is not just a choice but an obligation.

Ethics, defined by the Collins English Dictionary, is a "code of behaviour." However, in the professional world, our ethical obligations are defined by organisations such as:

  • IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors)
  • IoD (Institute of Directors)
  • RISK NZ (Risk New Zealand)
  • ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association)
  • ACFE (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners)
  • CAANZ/CPA (For accountants)

And other professional bodies.

The importance of ethics lies in the trust they build.

Our stakeholders and customers/clients expect consistent, ethical behaviour from us. We aim to be a "trusted advisor" and a valuable business partner to management, making ethics vital for maintaining trust relationships.

Course Benefits:

This training course is designed to assist IIA NZ members in fulfilling their annual CPE requirement of 2 hours of Ethics Continuing Professional Education. It serves as a foundation for the forthcoming Advanced Ethics training course, which will be offered once the new Global Standards are confirmed in the first half of the next year.

In the world of internal auditing, ethics are not just principles but the backbone of integrity and trust. Join us in exploring the depths of ethical conduct and embark on a journey that will not only enrich your professional life but also solidify your commitment to maintaining the highest standards of ethical behaviour.
