IIA NZ / Public Sector Assurance Forum (PSAF) Special Event

You are invited to a special joint event between the IIANZ and Public Sector Assurance Forum (PSAF) for professional leaders in internal audit, risk management, and governance within both the public and private sectors. This event provides a platform for insightful discussions, knowledge sharing and networking for assurance professionals. This is a hybrid event.

Session 1: Open to Heads of Internal Audit and their deputies from both the private and public sectors.

9:15 - 9:30 am: Networking with tea/coffee/water.

9:30 - 10:15 am: John Ryan's presentation / Q&A.

10:15 - 10:30 am: Joint discussion between IIANZ and PSAF members to reflect on John's presentation.

Session 2: PSAF members closed session.

10:30 - 11:00 am: PSAF-only closed session.

11:30 am: The event concludes.

Speaker: John Ryan, Controller and Auditor-General

Office of the Auditor-General

Bio overview: John Ryan began his term as Controller and Auditor-General on 2 July 2018.

John graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration. He studied strategic leadership at Oxford University and is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.

He has held senior executive positions in a range of public sector organisations and in the private sector. His experience spans corporate, regulatory and operational management, and assurance.

During his career of more than 40 years, John has led some of the largest programmes of capital works in the public sector, large-scale change management, and significant regulatory reform.

John has also contributed widely to his community. Before his appointment, he was a board member of the Royal New Zealand Ballet, the New Zealand Festival, and the Wellington Jazz Festival.


Event Focus:

  • The event will feature sessions focusing on integrity and the role of internal auditors to safeguard, promote and strengthen integrity systems in their organisations.
  • John Ryan, the Controller and Auditor-General, will serve as a distinguished guest speaker to share his insights and expectations for Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with peers and learn from each other's experiences and understand how both private and public sector organisations deal with integrity.
